A new poll reveals growing opposition to a casino in Hood River County while concerns over federal off-reservation commuting-distance guidelines persist

 

Portland - Support from Hood River county residents for a casino in their county is dwindling. In a new poll of Hood River County voters, just 22% expressed support for a casino while 56% of voters opposed the casino proposal.

The following question was asked April 21, 2008 among 300 likely voters in Hood River County. The poll was conducted by Mercury Public Affairs, a respected national public opinion research firm.

"Do you favor or oppose allowing a casino to be built in Hood River County?"

In addition to growing local opposition to a Gorge casino, new federal guidelines requiring off reservation casinos to be located within a reasonable commuting distance for tribal members wishing to work at the casino has also raised doubts about the viability of the casino plan.
