Lobbyists for the proposed Warm Springs off-reservation casino in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge claim it's a 40 mile commute from the reservation to the location of the proposed new casino in the town of Cascade Locks. Is it? Not even close... watch and see.
Why does this matter? Because earlier this year the federal government issued new guidelines requiring that new off reservation casinos - like the proposed Gorge casino - be located within a reasonable commuting distance to ensure that tribal members who wish to work at the casino don't have to leave their homes and families to do so.
